Arup
Arup is a global design, engineering, architecture, planning and advisory firm working across the built environment.
80 Charlotte Street, London
I worked with senior architects and designers on the project to understand what made it groundbreaking in its sustainability, both in how it was built and how it operated day-to-day. I also worked closely with communications contacts at the building’s owner and the construction firm to develop and execute a launch plan, which included supporting a leading architectural photographer to capture shots of the building for use across all platforms.
I managed internal and external stakeholders, ensuring my design-focussed colleagues understood the vision for the communications. I developed a launch with a strong comms offer of striking visual assets, data to support the sustainability credentials, and spokespeople to cover key angles.
Wellington Place, Leeds
The regional Leeds office announced its move to a new location in the city centre. With sustainability at its heart, the announcement also majored on how the move better positioning the company within the city’s business community and underlining its commitment to growing its regional presence around the UK post-COVID.
This informed the material we developed to engage with the region’s business media, playing into wider narratives around levelling up and regional development - including the company’s own exponential growth in the region.
Paradise, Birmingham
The regional Midlands office in announced its move into a new development in Birmingham city centre - away from its previous suburban site - which underlined its move closer to existing and prospective clients, as well as demonstrating long-term commitment to the city’s business community.
I worked closely with senior directors in the regional office as well as the owners of the new development to agree key lines and communications material, which I sold in to media, alongside briefing key spokespeople. A key challenge was ensuring internal and external stakeholders were aligned on messaging and the overall approach, but I leaned on my experience on previous projects to overcome these hurdles and produce a compelling offer to media.
Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce
Shotton Mill, Deeside
Arup provided a range of engineering services for the £600m transformation of Shotton Mill in Deeside, north Wales, into a crucial part of the UK’s recycling infrastructure.
Working with colleagues based in the UK and Turkey - where the mill’s owner is based - I developed a strong media offer which majored on the level of investment in the local area, sustainability credentials and international, multidisciplinary cooperation.
