London Councils

London Councils is the umbrella organisation for the 33 local authorities in the capital.

Renewal of the Freedom Pass

London Councils administers the Freedom Pass - which gives more than a million older and disabled Londoners free travel across the transport network - on behalf of local authorities.

In 2015, the organisation embarked on the first-ever renewal process to be conducted entirely online.

I worked with stakeholders at Transport for London, all 33 local authorities and a number of older person’s charities to ensure we would communicate effectively with this heard-to-reach demographic.

We also enlisted the help of Bolder Voices (a choir of Londoners aged 65-95) who had written, recorded and made a music video for their song “Love That Freedom Pass’. This culminated in a premiere screening at Somerset House in central London, attended by several leading politicians.

The process was a huge success with a record number of renewals.

50th anniversary of the London boroughs

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the London boroughs, I secured a series of earned pieces drawing on London’s unique cultural history in partnership with the Heritage Lottery Foundation.

I also organised a photocall in Carnaby Street - the heart of ‘Swinging London’ in 1965, when the boroughs were formed - featuring cult soul singer Geno Washington, the Lord Mayor of Westminster, two vintage Piaggo Vespa scooters and the cast of the hit musical based on the music of The Kinks, ‘Sunny Afternoon’.
